ASSEMBLAGE
Photographs can be quick and easy to produce, but when done right they can be a powerful vessel for communication. My approach to photography is to create a multi-layered experience that works like a book or a movie, with each layer adding to the overall message. I incorporate methods such as alternative processes, digital photography, encaustic, and salvaged materials including wood and metal.
My goal is to create photographs that go beyond being just two-dimensional photographs. Each artwork I create signifies my own coming-of-age story while exploring themes of connection, acceptance, memory, longing, and inevitable change. My pieces are intended to be viewed as anamorphic as we ourselves are, with each person seeing something different. I hope that my work sparks conversations and inspires individuals to investigate each layer of the photograph and to recognizing that life's issues are not just black and white, but shades of gray.
Windows
Imagine the inside of a brain; rather than filled with firing neurons, fitted with doors, rooms, and secret hiding spots: a maze. While I transition from college student to “real world” adult, life feels more and more as though I have become trapped and lost within a labyrinth of my own making. Searching for something I’ve lost but I can’t seem to remember what that something is. Combing alternative process, digital photography, encaustic (wax), and found windows; I have recreated the rooms in which I get lost the most.
Misc.
Assemblages I made in the Summer of 2021.
Entranced // Grief
Instincts continue to lead us outside. Recently, I found myself in the woods on a foggy afternoon, wearing only underwear. It was revolutionary. The level of comfort and normality I felt was incredible. Dare I say, more comfortable than my in my own apartment. Due to this incident, I am intrigued by the relationship between myself, the forest, and the parts that overlap. I do not believe Humans were meant to be caged – in any sense. Art is one of the ways we allow ourselves to be truly free. My goal is to use encaustic and mixed media and feel a little less caged and a little more comfort.
High School Portfolio
This series of work was created my senior year at Campbell County High School in Gillette, WY. After learning photographic transfer techniques, I continuously experimented with application surfaces. From there I continued to gather material, mediums, and random objects to further my nairratives about personal stories, frustrations about the world, and
Offering six scholarships to students pursing a career in the arts, the Wyoming Secondary Art Educators Association simultaneously hosts an art symposium in April where students across WY can display their work for three days.
